DeskHop Terms of Use
Last updated: 17 August 2026 · Applies to the DeskHop app for iPhone and iPad, and to DeskHop Host for Mac.
DeskHop shows your Mac's live screen on your iPhone or iPad and lets you control it — move the pointer, click, and type. It is provided free by Ayda Digital (United Kingdom). There are no accounts and no in-app purchases.
By installing or using DeskHop you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it. They work together with our Privacy Policy.
1. Your pairing code is a key to your Mac
Whoever holds your pairing PIN, or holds a device you have paired, can see everything on your Mac's screen and control it as if they were sitting at it. That includes your email, messages, photos, banking and work files.
- Treat the PIN like a password. Never photograph it, screen-share it, post it, or read it out where it can be overheard. It is valid for 10 minutes and one device.
- Unpair devices you do not recognise or no longer control — use "Forget this Mac" on the phone, and regenerate the PIN or quit DeskHop Host on the Mac.
- Keep your Mac locked when you leave it, and keep a passcode or Face ID on any paired phone.
- You are responsible for every device you pair and for everyone you let use those devices.
We are not responsible for anything done to or on your Mac through a session you enabled, or by anyone who obtained your PIN, your paired device, or access to your equipment — whether that is a partner, family member, colleague, employer or a stranger.
2. Remote control can do real damage
A DeskHop session is full control, not a read-only view. Through it, files can be deleted or moved, messages and emails can be sent, purchases can be made, settings can be changed, and applications can be quit while work is unsaved. You accept that risk when you pair a device and start a session. Take particular care with a phone in a pocket or a bag — end the session when you are finished.
3. Connections depend on the network and may drop
DeskHop works over the internet or your local network. Speed, quality and reliability depend on conditions we do not control — Wi-Fi, mobile signal, your internet provider, firewalls, your Mac going to sleep. A session can slow down, freeze or drop at any moment, including in the middle of an action. A tap or keystroke may arrive late, arrive twice, or not arrive at all. Do not rely on DeskHop for anything time-critical, safety-critical, or where an interrupted action would cause harm or loss.
4. Keep your own backups
DeskHop is free and provided "as is". We make no promise that any pairing, setting or connection will be kept, restored or delivered. We are not liable for lost, deleted or corrupted data, on your Mac or on our servers. Keep your own backup of anything that matters (Time Machine or an equivalent), and expect that you may occasionally need to pair again.
5. Only connect to computers you own or are authorised to control
You may use DeskHop only on a Mac you own, or one you have clear permission from its owner (and, where relevant, your employer or IT department) to access remotely. Accessing someone else's computer without authorisation is a criminal offence in the United Kingdom (Computer Misuse Act 1990) and in most other countries. You are solely responsible for having that authorisation, and for anyone whose screen or data may be visible during a session.
6. Acceptable use
Use DeskHop lawfully and reasonably. You must not use it to monitor or control a person without their knowledge and consent, to harass, stalk or abuse anyone, to break any law or third-party right, or to attack, overload, probe or reverse-engineer our relay service. You are solely responsible for complying with the law where you are. We may suspend or block a device or Mac that appears to be abusing the service, and we may cooperate with lawful requests from the authorities.
7. The service, and changes to it
DeskHop is offered free of charge. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it — including the relay server — at any time, and we do not promise any particular level of availability or uptime. We may update these terms; the "last updated" date above changes when we do, and continuing to use DeskHop means you accept the updated terms.
8. No warranty
DeskHop is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that DeskHop will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure against every attack, or compatible with every Mac, phone or network.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, business, data or goodwill, or for anything done through a session you enabled or by anyone who obtained your PIN, device or equipment.
Our total liability to you for all claims connected with DeskHop is limited to £50, or — if you have paid us for DeskHop — the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, whichever is greater.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. If you are a consumer, you keep all the rights the law gives you, and nothing here affects them.
10. Apple
Where you download DeskHop from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple is not a party to these terms, has no responsibility for DeskHop, and is not obliged to provide support for it — but Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as a third-party beneficiary.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of your local law, and may bring proceedings where you live.
